I have a good friend who is bipolar and when his depression hits, he calls it his ‘black dog’. On the flip side, I had a black dog … a Rottweiler-Border Collie mix … who was the gentlest, most loving dog in the world. At 130 pounds, he thought he was a lapdog and would plop in my lap as soon as I sat down. And smart … I worked long hours back in those days, so I would come home around 11:00 p.m. and fix a sandwich. All of a sudden, Gomer (da dog) would run to the front door barking his fool head off, so that I had to go to the door to see … that nobody was there, but when I returned to the kitchen, my sandwich had mysteriously disappeared. Interestingly, it took me a few weeks to catch on to his tricks!
Definitely! Now, instead of a smart dog, I have 5 incorrigible, obnoxious, arrogant, vicious cats … all of whom I love and wouldn’t trade for a million pieces of gold!
