In the edition Caliope keeps around to share with younger housecats here (I think it’s a book club edition, which is why the cover is already falling off), that chapter goes on to say, “Often, the best way to prevent humans from eating foods that are not good for them is for a floof to eat those foods instead. Certainly the easiest way to stop humans from engaging in activities that could harm them is for a floof to interrupt in some way that the humans cannot resist or ignore. At all times, floofs must be vigilant so they can take the appropriate actions as soon as humans start to do — or eat — something they shouldn’t.”
