Smell is so important to memory, it’s true–every time I smell lavender, I’m reminded of the first time I went to Scotland:-)

I grew up across the river from a paper plant. Every time someone passes highly sulfureted gas I think of home.

Yes! We used to drive from my military assignment to my wife’s house past a paper plant. Whenever those odors land on me, I remember those drives.
