Brace yourself. It’s time for another first world rant. This time it’s about my car.
It’s a lovely SUV, a Mazda CX-5 that I’ve had three plus years. One of its many features is that it reminds me when maintenance is required. This vehicle requires more maintenance than any car I’ve ever owned, which includes Porsches, BMWs, Audis, Mercedes, Chevys, Nissan, other Mazdas, and Fords. Although the car is comfortable and reliable, this constant maintenance thing pisses me off.
So that’s number one. But here comes the reminder. Once it decides that maintenance is required, the message in orange is displayed whenever the car is started.
Here is what pisses me off. That thing is so inaccurate. The good Mazda people put a little sticker on the windshield, too, so I know exactly when it’s supposed to be returned for maintenance. According to it, my car should go back for maintenance by January 10, 2019, or by 33,000 miles, whichever is comes first.
My car has 30,000 miles. According to MY calendar, it’s not yet December, let alone January of 2019.
Yeah, it’s a nice feature. Too bad it doesn’t work. Makes you wonder about the rest, doesn’t it?
Ahh the days when all you had to do was wait for your car engine to sputter and cough before you realized something might be wrong. Points, plugs, corroborators and the such, and your dashboard only had the speedometer, gas and temperature gauges on them. No when the uprising of the robots comes our cars and computers will be the first ones to betray us. lol

I think the cell phones will be the first to turn. I think if the machines can control information and cut off our cell phones, people will FREAK OUT.

Well, some people will. Millennial’s for sure, how do I know this? I have three of them and they’ve never known what it’s like to NOT have a cell phone in your hand for the majority of the day. They don’t know what it’s like to actually BE the remote control to your parent’s huge box console television set, or that you had to wait for someone to finish using the phone on the wall so you could make a call yourself. There was no call waiting, ID or blocking the freaking phone rang and you had to answer it! They don’t even remember dial-up internet connections for Pete’s sake! They sure as hell don’t know what a typewriter is, I mean they know but they’ve never had to use one. Going to work and not having a phone until you got to work, or the void of silence between the time you left work and got home because there was no cell phones or texting or anything. God, how did we EVER make it though (I’m being sarcastic here). lol

Yes, so true, and I frequently think of all those aspects of our modern lives. Like, drop a dime, or the 411, right? I guess they still know what Christmas or holiday cards are. Clock faces with numbers and hands seem to baffle them, too. Oh, the changes. It’s eternal, innit?

Yes, I agree but somehow I feel that the older generations are those that might better survive an electronic apocalypse if you know what I mean? The Baby-Boomers and the Gen-Xers, we grew up without electronic dependencies, we until recently. And by recently I mean the last twenty years or so. But we evolve as time is the evolution of the human thought and with that brings good and bad.

I agree with you. My eighty-something-year-old father just set up an email account for himself, so he’ll survive the electrocalypse. However, electronics are just the first attack of the machines taking over. His cars will still get him.

I don’t know, I mean what if someone has an old, regular engine Delta 88 or something? I doubt that car will rise up with the machines….lol

Depends on the car and how it was treated, I think. Some of those old cars were driven to breaking. Some weren’t given the oil they needed, or tune ups, leaving them to sputter along the roads, and weren’t ever cleaned. So I’m saying, these cars might be looking for revenge.

Well if they all suffered the way you said they were then, most of those are dead I think. But then again never underestimate the”Christine” factor. That Plymouth Fury lived up to her name. So I’m torn here. Lol

Maybe we need to avoid Plymouth Furys. Probably Roadrunners, too.
