Saturday’s Wandering Thought

Don’t you hate it when you gain weight but you hang onto clothes which no longer fit you because you tell yourself you’re going to lose that weight, and then you finally give up on that idea and give the clothes away or throw them out because it just depresses you to see all those clothes that used to fit you, and then, about a year after you give them away or throw them out, you lose weight and could wear them?

Yeah, me too.

  1. Hi Michael. Wow. That happened to Ron and me. Two years ago we loaded up the van with stacks of clothing from pants, shirts, shorts, dress clothing, coats, everything we were too large to fit into comfortably because years of saying we would fit into them soon failed. Now two years later both of us have lost 25 pounds and still losing and all that stuff would have fit. Oh well, I figure there were people out there that needed it, and it was not helping anyone just hanging in our closets and in our dressers. Best wishes. Hugs. Scottie

      1. Hi Michael. That was the part I forgot to include that you got anyway. We gave them to organizations that support homeless and others in need. One person came to the back of the van and after looking at the stuff started crying. We thought we did something wrong and asked what was the problem. He hugged both of us and said most of the clothing and stuff they get is well used, abused and not really nice but better than most homeless might have. But these were in great shape, no stains, no holes, they looked great. We were giving them up because they did not fit not that they were worn out. He was so grateful. He also explained they couldn’t take them all, they did not have the room. We let him look through the van for what they thought their people needed and asked him to direct us to other places he knew that might need the rest. Took a lot of the day, and we saw parts of the area that we were never in before. But everyone loved the stuff we were willing to give. And to tell the truth for a while we felt like we were ten foot tall and got such a grand emotional boost. I do not regret what we did. As we age Ron who once was so much heavier than me can now wear a lot of my clothing. As I lose weight myself the more I am glad he looks into my closet for clothing to wear. It is all good. But the feeling that day of going to places and offering them what was in our van was a priceless gift that even if I never get again, I will cherish. Not only that but the new closet space was great also. Hugs. Scottie
