Sunday’s Wandering Thought

I awoke feeling tired and realized I’d gotten about six hours of sleep. Wasn’t real concerned as that’s been my norm for years. But I usually don’t feel tired, and I wondered if it had to do with aging, as I’m now sniffing on the border of being 68. So I thought, yes, this is probably the case.

When I went into the office, cranked up the ‘puter and turned to the NYTimes this morning after breakfast, the first story spotted was, “Why Does Sleep Become More Elusive As We Age” in Salon. I don’t think sleep is my issue per se, but rest. Still, it made me feel like they were spying on my private thoughts.

I wouldn’t be surprised if another story emerges soon, “Why Do We Get More Paranoid About Being Spied On When We Age” soon.

  1. Hi Michael. I also get up very early. I am only 60 this year. I get up normally around 4 am. I have most of my life. But to do that I have to go to bed early also, like 7 or 8 PM. I guess I got into that habit when I had to get up at that time to milk cows. In church boarding school, I kept to that schedule. Now it gives me the time in the morning with no one else up or around to get so much done and enjoy my coffee, before I have to do the social stuff. So congratulations on having a routine you stick to. Hugs. Scottie

    1. Hi Scottie, Amazing how we develop these habits, isn’t it?

I worked rotating shifts for many years to cover our 24-hour commitment in the military. Through that experience, I discovered I like working in quiet and solitude, and that usually came around when others weren’t around. After I left shift work, I created habits of arriving at work before anyone else so I could have that peace and quiet I desired. Congratulations to you on finding and sticking with your schedule. Hugs, my friend.

  2. Our Can Opener is about to turn 65- but she hasn’t gotten the memo yet. She gets up early to have prayer time before the Critters get here, and sometimes she does her workouts early too-(when she can get me off the yoga mat)… but right when I’m charged up and ready to play (9 pm)- guess who heads to bed?😾

    1. Isn’t she pleased that you try to do yoga with her? Or is she a little resentful and envious that you’re more limber than her?

I always find early morning most conducive to my meditation. I do that in a period before I consider myself official ‘up’ for the day. My floofs don’t understand it at all — or they do and they’re attempting to sabotage my mindfulness efforts!

9 PM! You’re charged up about two hours earlier than my boys, but then, that’s in parallel to my bedtime. Hmmm…I think floofs like you are plotting against their peoples to keep them awake.

I’m going to think on that for a while. Cheers
