Science fiction, fantasy, and mystery writer. Singer (sorry, no shows) & nudist (in my home). Beer, cat, cheese, coffee, pie and wine friend. Left IBM and Silicon Valley for the southern Oregon life but I miss the ocean. We're too far inland. Gotta move.

My own approach to writing is a lot like that: I can’t start with no idea whatsoever, but I can’t work from a detailed plot outline and a ‘character questionaire’ with the protagonist’s entire life history, either. Some of my fictional people end up changing species from what I originally thought they were, and theinevitable backstory revisions are generally an accepted — ’cause they have no choice — part of being cast as a character in one of my stories.

That’s me, too, Thomas, and I enjoy it. Species changes, sex, ethnicity…I take it as it arrives.
