You have to write what you have to write about, and sometimes what shows up on the page surprises even the author. “what did I just DO there?” is not an uncommon feeling among writers…

I often experience that feeling, Judy. It’s especially delightful to ‘re-discover’ when I’m editing and revising. Cheers

it’s also heady when it just starts pouring out, no end in sight and you think omg where do I go next and there it is, smiling back at you

Oh, my, yes. Then I realize the coffee shop has emptied or filled and wonder, when did that happen? Then I realize the time, and how long I’d been sitting there. The coffee is cold as winter rain or gone, and writer’s butt has set in. And the world seems wrong because I’ve been in this other world. Hard to get non-writers to understand all of this.

It’s our world, not theirs. I think that’s the difference.
