As with many humans, I’m a fan of the look back. That’s the manuever engaged as you walk away from a chair or table: you look back to ensure you haven’t forgotten or dropped something.
I watch people conduct their look back and happen to see three women leave their table without doing the look back. As I thought that through, I saw a purse hanging over the back of a chair. As I rose to cross to get it and chase them down, the woman hustled back in with an alarmed expression. Hope she’s learned and plans to look back in the future.
BTW, would the look back be a good dance move? I could see it. You might be doing it on the dance floor.
Hi Michael. I do all that check long before I even pay the bill. I often have to remind Ron to get his stuff. But I do understand what you are describing. Most people have little awareness of their surroundings and less of their personal items. As a whole we in the US tend to take so much of our things with us and not understand their value that we don’t make sure we have them with us all the time.
My husband gets upset with me because he hates things in his pockets so often leaves his keys in the car or van. Overnight. Yes we have it all covered with security cameras and lights but that wouldn’t stop someone breaking the window and steal the car. I find out in the morning when we have to hunt for his keys he is missing. So my husband would be the person to get up and leave his phone, keys, or iPad behind as he did what he had to and left. Thank you for being one of the good people that Jill posts about. Hugs
