WordPress Issues

I don’t know about others, but I’m having WordPress issues today. The long and short: I can’t add tags. They just get swallowed and disappeared. I closed it, rebooted, tried it in other browsers, etc.

A laundry list of things to try to fix the problem was uncovered but I have a busy day planned and would rather complain about it and wait for them to fix it, rather than going through the tedium of throwing everything against the wall to see what fixes it. I did shift to classic editor to see if that fixed it: nope.

It vexes me because I ask, why write, post, and publish if there are no tags? Well, I went ahead and did that with a dream post, “The Festival Dream”, but until adding tags works again, there’s a good chance I won’t post.

It’s worth noting that this issue was also reported in November of 2024 by others. I saw no reports on how anyone fixed it back then.

  1. I have problens with Word Press on a daily basis, but I think they are partially my tablet screwing up not WP. But there are a number of thing that are WP’s fault, and I don’t understand them because while I use computers, I learn by hook and crook, not a very good teacher. ENIAC is older than me, but not by much. Kids today are born to use computers. I was not.
Regardless, one of the very tiny reasons I barely post anymore is all the changes they make to the program. I learn something, and they inevitably change it. Things experts can do are over my capacity to learn now.
So if you find out how to fix problems, please publish them. If I can use them, I will be thankful…

    1. rg, I learned by hook and crook myself, just as with many other programs, and it irritates me when they change them because then I need to unlearn what I knew to do and learn the new way. And right about the time I learn the new way, they change it again.

If I learn anything useful, I will post it. I often depend on the kindness of strangers and what they learn and share, so I try to do the same.

      Cheers, M

  2. In order to serve us better… (worst phrase in the English language!) …
They are definitely effing with the tag function. It isn’t just you. All 3 of my blogs have been hit.

Where you’d type in the tag “search” area, you used to get either a drop-down showing tags you already use, or it would *automatically* create a new tag.

I’ve seen a couple of things happening: 1) The drop-down can appear ABOVE the tag box, and if you aren’t scanning the page looking for it, you can miss it. 2) If you are creating a new tag, about 80% of the time you now have to select “create” (or is it “add”) a new tag–so extra steps. 3) The other 20% of the time you go through the hoops and the new tag just disappears, and you try again or give up.

I swear if WP gives me another “how did the WP experience work for you today?” popup while I’m in the middle of trying to do something that no longer works properly, I will tell them in my very colorful language. πŸ™‚

    1. Hi David, sorry to hear that you’re going through the same problem. Unfortunately, after days of enduing this issue, it seems like this is the ‘new and improved’ version. To me, it’s a huge step backward. I put it a tag. It’s often one used before. Then some hamster runs on a wheel and generates a list of words which might have that word. I then scroll through that list and find the right word. Used to be so quick and easy to add a tag. Now it’s a painstaking, mind-numbing process. Guess that’s why they had to improve it. Cheers, M

      1. Hi Michael. I notice the same thing about other programs, as well. Whenever they make updates, something gets lost in the mix. I’m thinking of Yahoo mail. As you say, “it’s a painstaking, mind-numbing process.” Much prefer they leave well enough that.

Well, that’s enough of first-world whining for now. Thanks for getting back to me, and happy blogging.
