Science fiction, fantasy, and mystery writer. Singer (sorry, no shows) & nudist (in my home). Beer, cat, cheese, coffee, pie and wine friend. Left IBM and Silicon Valley for the southern Oregon life but I miss the ocean. We're too far inland. Gotta move.

I’ve always liked this quote. To me, it doesn’t mean, ‘Science fiction is about predicting the future,’ but rather, ‘Science fiction should include the effects of new discoveries and inventions.’ How are characters’ lives affected by the proverbial rockets and robots? How have society and the environment changed? If the new tech is just sorta there, and nothing else is different, the author hasn’t thought it through enough.
