Catankerous

A feline with a bad-tempered, uncooperative, wayward disposition is said to be catankerous.

In use: Normally a sweet and gentle calico, Tabitha always became catankerous when the moon went full in July.

Catimental

Catimental (adjective) – marked by and governed or ordered according to felines’ needs.

Example: Michael wanted to sleep in, but being a catimental man, he knew he needed to get up and feed the cats. Maybe he could return to bed afterwards.

Catsight

Catsight (noun) 1. A feline’s ability to penetrate the ordinary with its vision and apprehend an object or creature’s true nature. 2. Faculty of seeing and comprehending creatures and objects not seen by other species.

In use:

I thought I was alone, but Stormy orchestrated a snap-roll and sat up in her bed on the piano bench. Whiskers forward, ears pricked up, and eyes wide open, her catsight was tracking something. She was looking toward the window. I looked that way and listened. Nothing but the pink moon flooding the nocturnal landscape was evident to me. I asked Stormy, “What is it? You hear a raccoon?”

That last was spoken as a prayer to seduce my runaway fears.  Stormy’s jade eyes tracked something move toward me. If it was a spirit, as suspected, I hoped it was a friendly one. Spirits were normally friendly during a pink moon. Friendly or malicious, it would probably be a long night. I was pleased with Stormy’s catsight. Without it, I’d be caught wholly unaware. At least now I was a little prepared.

Suddencat

A suddencat is a wily beast moving with the sound of fog without a whisper of wind. You’re there, alone, when a suddencat abruptly leaps onto your lap, slides across your calf, or sits down, asking questions with whiskers and eyes.

Catschief

Catschief is feline behavior that causes annoyance or difficulty, but often with a humorous slant, such as coupdepaws like stealing your piece of cheese, pizza, or sock, or entertaining themselves via cattipping.

Meowfluence

Meowfluence – The effect wherein the meowing sound cats make replaces words in song.

In example: Michael was meditating, only to discover he was under the meowfluence. Meow had replaced his mantra, and he was now chanting the “Meow Mix” cat food commercial jingle to himself. On the other hand, he felt relaxed and a little drowsy now, but had a slight craving for a small treat.

Catnetic

When a person, object or activity consistently draws a cat’s attention, it’s said to be catnetic.

In example:

Michael’s weeding activity is catnetic. Not only does it draw his four felines as catators, but Pepper, Buddy and Princess from the neighbors’ homes as well.

Catmology

From the Human word cat and -logia, study of, we have catmology.

Catmology was originally the study of cats. However, in more recent popular culture, catmology has come to be accepted as the theory that the universe is cat-centric.

Evidence of this developing trend is on display in the world wide web and Internet. Cat rescues, cat love, photos of cats being cats, seem to be at the forefront, fighting with ‘real news’, such as the Superbowl, lessor sports information like baseball, cricket and football scores, fashion trends or if the POTUS knows how to read, to dominate our interests.

It certainly seems plausible that cats started the Big Bang. Something was sitting there and along came a cat. “Hey,” said the cat, “what’ll happen if I knock this over?” So they did. Bang. Then they probably rolled around in it a bit.

Some will point out inconsistencies in this theory. How can cats be there when there was nothing else except hot, dense matter? Catmologists will admit, they don’t know, but will counter, it’s quite possible that a cat managed it somehow. Cats have long defied every other law of special and normal physics. If any creature can tear or slip through the space-time fabric, it’s probably a cat. In a personal aside, I believe it was a ginger cat. They’re always getting into trouble.

In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to someday learn that physicists changed the string theory to the fur theory. Cat fur seems to be everywhere. Revealing it as the most fundamental aspect of our reality seems like a no-brainer.

Catstidious

Catstidious is the term catologists use to express cats who are delicate about their eating habits and intense about grooming.

With eating habits, they prefer clean bowls and a clean area, not deigning to touch something offered if the bowl isn’t perfectly cleaned first. When offered a presentation not up to their standards, they’ll stare at it for a long while. Drooping whiskers, a tail lowered to half-staff, and dull eyes will aptly communicate the severe letdown they’re experiencing. It’s not just the food, but that you, you have failed to meet their standards. With that established, they turn and hurry away from the offending offering.

Quinn of the Black Paws is a master at this.

Castidious is also applied to their intensive, extensive grooming. Sometimes they provide it to themselves, but often, castidious felines will include other animals, like humans. One cat, Jade, never believed anyone touching her was clean enough. It was great fun to touch a spot where she’d just washed because she’d immediately turn her pink tongue back on that spot in a furious attempt to fix what you just did by, gad, touching her.

She also groomed our faces. It was cute to us…at first. However, we would say, “Okay, that’s enough,” and she would take us firmly with a genclaw and hold us in place. “It’s enough when I say it’s enough,” she communicated to us.
