Catportation

Catportation (catfinition): Cataportation is a system or process by which felines sometimes travel. Whether by magic or advanced feline science and technology, cats have an amazing ability to transport themselves to unusual locations, generally surprising people when they show up. The system seems analogous to organic matter transmitter or teleportation systems featured in human fiction. Many catalogists theorize the ability may be a natural feline skill, perhaps associated with their fur or tail.

The other theory advanced to explain catportation is that cats are masters of quantum mechanics that move through other dimensions.

Mixkers

Mixkers (catfinition): Whiskers of several different colors on a cat, usually black and white, but sometimes with a white whisker that starts black. It’s pretty cool, especially when they’ll crazy-curvy. Quinn doesn’t have such curvy whiskers, but he does have mixkers. I would share of photo of them, but he started rolling around on the carpet when I tried photographing his face. Maybe I’ll try again.

After my coffee.

T.L.F.

T.L.F. (catfinition): acronym utilized by catalogist to refer to a small cat with a lot of fur. The letters mean “Tiny little floof.” The acronym is often pronounced “tillif.”

B.O.F.

B.O.F. (catfinition): B.O.F., pronounced as bof, is an acronym catalogists employ. The letters mean, “Big old floof.” Small cats and kittens showing signs of growing larger, such as big paws, are often referred to as mini-B.O.F.s.

Catweek

Catweek (catfinition): a period of nine days, as recognized and practiced by felines and their catlender.

  • Mewsday
  • Furday
  • Pawsday
  • Purrsday
  • Meowday
  • Clawsday
  • Floofday
  • Whiskerday
  • Tailday

By tradition, felines’ activities are prescribed and dictated by these days, which are set by the phases of the moon, as cats see it. Tailday is the end of the week, Mewsday begins a new week, and Meowday is the middle. By some catventions, felines groom more and shed greater quantity of fur on Floofday, while they’re expected to use their claws more frequently on Clawsday. Furday produces the most hairballs. Pawsday is a day of rest.

Whiskerday is the newest day, replacing Fangday in the more traditional Feral Catlender.

Floofends

Floofends (catfinition): Cats who sleep on opposite ends of objects, such as beds, sofas, and tables. They resemble bookends without books.  They rarely help hold anything up, although they can put plans on hold, especially if it might disturb them.

Felinesophy

Felinesophy (catfinition): The study of general and fundamental problems concerning cats, what they’re thinking, what they want, and the reasons and causes of their behavior. Classical felinesophy questions include, “You want to go out AGAIN???” And, “Are you for real?” However, most felinesophers include more mundane questions, like, “Who’s a good kitty?”

Catvention

Catvention (catfinition): 1. an agreement among felines about the protocols regarding eating, sleeping, washing, and other daily activities; 2. a large assembly of felines; 3. inventions made to improve cats’ lives.

Furboten

Furboten (catfinition): Areas of a resident or office where cats are not permitted to enter.

In Use: “Once she cleaned the guest room, she closed the door on the cats and declared, “This room is furboten.”” They immediately began clawing and meowing to get in.
