Thursday’s Theme Music

Welcome to Threesday! Yes, Threesday. Many people aren’t aware of the origins of Thursday, but it comes from the invading hordes that were taking down the Roman Empire. The Romans thought, ‘thurs’ was a reference to ‘three’ in the pagan language because the invaders would sometimes hold up three fingers. The invaders were telling the Romans that they’d be back in three days, on Thor’s Day. Oh, the things that mixed-up communications have given us. Of course, I made most of that up just now. As far as I know, the Thor’s Day part might be true.

The cats were waiting for the sun to arrive this morning. When it did at 7:22 AM, they all yawned, stretched, and asked, “What’s for breakfast? Come on, get up! Time to eat.” The temperature then was 28 F locally. It’s expected to climb to 55 before the sun takes its show over the horizon at 5:28 this evening. Islands of white clouds linger along the northern horizons above the mountains like the promise of a new land, but the sky is otherwise a hazy, lazy blue.

I have Lenny Kravitz singing “Are You Gonna Go My Way” stuck in the morning mental music stream. I know I’ve used his 1993 release as my theme music before, but the song is worming through my head this AM. I must share it to release it. Hence, it’s the day’s theme music.

Be safe, be smart, stay positive, test negative, wear a mask as needed, get the vaxes and boosters when ye can, and take time to sit and smell the coffee. I’m now going to smell and drink my coffee. Happy Threesday to you. Cheers

Sunday’s Theme Music

Another feline-inspired theme song.

Three cats floof-share me. Each is jealous and distrustful of the other two. Each require me to love on them and then feed them separately from the others. To make it so, they sit and watch my movements, then spring into action and attempt to herd me when they see an opportunity. This is happening as I’m waking up, using the bathroom, making breakfast, brewing coffee, etc.

Each time the floofbuttz make a move, they look up with a question: “Are you gonna go my way?”

Lenny Kravitz put the question, “Are You Gonna Go My Way”, into a muscular, guitar-heavy melody back in 1993. Given the lyrics, he may have had cats in mind when he composed it.

[Verse 1]
I was born long ago
I am the chosen I’m the one
I have come to save the day
And I won’t leave until I’m done

So that’s why you’ve got to try
You got to breathe and have some fun
Though I’m not paid I play this game
And I won’t stop until I’m done

But what I really want to know is
Are you going to go my way ?
And I got to, got to know

Tuesday’s Theme Music

Birds were outside. (Yeah, where else would you expect them to be, amiright?)

I spied on them, flying around (and monitored the cats as they chittered and stared).

Out of that came memories of a Facebook post. Back in the last century, they were saying flying cars could be coming soon. Instead, we’re hoarding toilet paper and sneaking out of the house.

Out of that came a wish, time for me to fly. Songs hovered above the stream, ready to jump in. “Big Ol’ Jet Airliner”. “Learning to Fly”. “I’d Fly Away”. “Time for Me to Fly”.

But Lenny took it with his hit, “Fly Away” (1998).

Monday’s Theme Music

I don’t know ’bout you, but some days, I get up and think of my routine, and look at the world and the moment, and I think of other places. I think of beaches with a sun blistering the sea, and book stores with cafes, croissants and coffee, and strolling that endless beach in the mist of crashing waves. I look ’round and think, I just want to fly away.

Then I know what I want to do and need to do that day, and I snap out of it. But the song begun with the thought streams through me like the runoff from melting mountain snow.

Here’s Lenny Kravitz’s 1998 song, “Fly Away”. Guess I’ll have some coffee instead of flying away. You know, let the wings of caffeine lift me into the day.

Sunday’s Theme Music

Wasn’t streaming anything in my head this morning, save the theme music from “Magnum, P.I.” by Mike Post. I think Mike Post wrote half of the theme music for television shows in the seventies and eighties. Sure seemed like it.

I decided today needed something crunchier. As I walked, my mind recovered a little gem from 1999 by a man named Lenny Kravitz, “Fly Away”. I like those opening chords, and the general message, “I’d like to fly away.” 1999 was a damn fine year for me, maybe my favorite year.

Crank it up and sing it with Lenny. You can even play the air guitar.

Today’s Theme Music

Hurricanes. Floods. Wildfires. Nuke threats. Politics. Fake news. Bad beer. Violence.

Sometimes I think that I need to just get away from it all. Stick me in a stasis chamber and call me when it’s over. If not that, let me just fly away. Sing it for me, Lenny. From nineteen ninety-eight.
