Good People Doing Good Things — Helpers

Just spreading some info to help you stay positive. Cheers

As I sat down to write this post, I sighed deeply, not really feeling in the right spirit for a ‘good people’ post.  But, knowing how much you all enjoy the good people posts, I carried on and within a few minutes of reading about good people, my dark mood began to lift.  Funny how good people can do that, isn’t it?

Jimmy Finch lives in Clarksville, Tennessee, about 90 miles from Mayfield, Kentucky, where a devastating tornado hit last Friday night.  Mayfield reportedly suffered the worst damage throughout the five states that were impacted by tornadoes that night.

On Sunday morning, Jimmy Finch loaded food and a smoker onto his small trailer and headed out to feed the people of Mayfield.  As Jimmy tells it …

“I know they don’t have electricity. No restaurants. No running water. I just figured I would do what I could do. So I…

Carrot Tops: A 99-Word Flash Fiction

Another grin-inducing story about the mighty Aloysius.

pedometergeek's avatarnbsmithblog...random digressions and musings

One of the blog prompts over at Carrot Ranch was to write a 99 word (no more, no less) about tools, either using the word itself or mentioning different kinds of tools. This pedometer geek writer had difficulty with this prompt, but when I checked out the site (www.carrotranch.com ), I thought I had an extra week to write something. Finally, earlier today (soon to be tomorrow, but I digress), I came up with an idea, and it is as follows:

Carrot Tops

Aloysius considered himself to be ordinary as much as any cat believes he’s ordinary.

His magical powers were just part of who he was. His flying ability, his strength, his speed, and other abilities were all tools to be used when needed.

Aloysius mostly used his powers in a positive manner, but every so often his curiosity got the better of him.

This day, Aloysius watched the…

The Sanctity of Life Party?

Yes, the hypocritical sanctimony that the GOP brings to everything now: death is okay for COVID-19 as long as they’re saved from the tyranny of wearing a mask. They’re against abortion but for capital management. Mass shootings and murder? Of course — for this is the ‘life is precious’ party — with an asterisk.

On most days, parents drop their kids off at school, hoping they get a decent day of education and come home at night for supper. However, in the United States of America, that, unfortunately, is not always the case. There are times when some of those children do not come home. Because in this country, we value the right to have a firearm over the right not to be mowed down by a lunatic.

Only in America is this the case. And we have one political party that continues to look the other way and allow it to continue, unabated. This is also the same party that calls itself pro-life. The problem, of course, is that the only lives they consider sacred are the ones that sit in the womb of a mother.

The rest of us? Not so much.

On the day of yet another mass shooting at one…

Chag Sameach and Be Vigilant

I’m always amazed at the power of photography to capture great beauty and great evil in the same frame. The resolve and strength in that composition is awe-inspiring.

Always resist. And always celebrate.

Floofgiving

Ah, a reminder of a special holiday for some.

Michael Seidel's avatarMichael Seidel, writer

Floofgiving(floofinition) – an observance to show affectation and gratitude to housepet(s).

In use: “Every morning when he got up, again when he returned home, and again before going to bed, he showered his pets with kisses, and gave them treats, making everyday Floofgiving in his home.”

Is Writing a “Muscle”? Should You Write Every Day?

Lev says it all in here. Find out what works for you. I sit down to write everyday. Sometimes the output is small. I don’t worry; my mind is constantly working the scenes and the words to describe them. They keep. It keeps on flowing, sometimes as a drip, other times as a tsunami.
