Lovecathlon / Lovecathlete

Lovecathlon / Lovecathlete (Catfinition): The lovecathlon is a series of feline behavior demonstrating their affection for another; felines participating in these events are known as lovcathletes.

In Use: “Demonstrating his full lovecathlon prowess, Quinn began with a trill that curled into a purr. Hurrying forward, he bunted my leg, and then threw himself on the floor. Rolling and stretching, he exposed his belly for a tummy rub. After receiving the tummy rub, he bounded along me as I went to a chair to read. Curling up in my lap, he nibbled my chin, and turned his purr up to eleven. It was an impressive lovecathlon, lacking only a dead present.”

Killper or Killpurr

Killper, Killpurr (variant) (Catfinition): An activity that stops a cat’s purr. Not to be confused with the Killper Sanitizers.

In Use: “Tucker was purring and enjoying a tummy rub, when a sharp noise outside acted as a killper.”

Janfur and Junfur

Janfur and junfur (Catfinition):  Refers to a cat’s seasonal coats. Originating in Australia, junfur refers to a cat’s thickest coat, grown to keep it warm in winter, and janfur is the coat’s lighter, summer coat. In regions north of the equator, the situation is reversed, and the janfur is grown in winter to keep the coat warm, while the junfur comes in during the summer month’s.

In Use: “Quinn’s thick, luxurious janfur, grown to cope with Oregon’s cold winters, had given way to a thinner, lighter, and shorter junfur. He appeared to lose ten pounds after his janfur was gone.”

Today’s Theme Music

“Driving that train, high on cocaine. Casey Jones, you’d better watch your speed. Trouble ahead, trouble behind, and you know that notion just crossed my mind.”

Those were the words I was singing one day while passing through Mom’d living room. She was busy cleaning. Mom did – and does – have a spotless house. I was fourteen or fifteen, with long hair that irritated Mom and Dad, and a faint mustache and goatee that annoyed my school and coaches. Mom said, “What are you singing?”

I stopped and grew still, as children often do when suddenly challenged by an adult about something that seems obvious. “Singing “Casey Jones.””

“But what were you singing?”

“I don’t know.”

Yes, claim amnesia whenever possible. Mom didn’t look happy but, after waiting for follow-up questions, I discreetly scurried away. Later, I concluded, it must have been the cocaine part, right? I chuckled about that.

Mom and Dad were divorced, and still later, while at Dad’s place, I was walking through his living room, singing…you know it.

“What are you singing?” he asked.

Having been through this questioning and being older, I skipped ahead to the lyrics instead of providing the title. After hearing them, he shook his head. Smiling, I moved on.

Here it is, as performed by the Grateful Dead, “Casey Jones,” from nineteen seventy.

Today’s Theme Song

I was going to do some Rush today, but my head streamed some other stuff. Geddy Lee did make it as part of the new sound in my head.

It’s from the early 1980s, which was, like, an interesting time, hey? Like, we didn’t have cell phones, and couldn’t take selfies, like people today can do. Being primitive people, we lacked Facebook and other social media, depending on staying connected by calling on land-lines, writing letters, or visiting. CNN had just gotten started, and Fox News was still sixteen years away. I didn’t even have an email account, then. That didn’t matter, as nobody I knew had an account.

Email seemed so futuristic and exciting when I signed up for my first account, with AOL. I remember receiving my first email. It was for a product called Viagra. I thought it was important, because it was addressed to me by name, and said, “URGENT!” in the subject line. None of the links worked, though, because Viagra didn’t exist, yet. That’s how advanced those times where, though.

Here is Bob & Doug McKenzie, of the McKenzie Brothers (Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas) of SCTV, with Geddy, presenting their fantastic dance hit, “Take Off.”

Today’s Bumper Sticker

There seems to be a law of nature that when I’m watching for a bumper sticker, none will appear. If I forget about them as I’m walking around, I usually spy a few that interest me.

So it was today while walking. This, on a new generation Volkswagen Beetle, gave me a laugh.

“I’m Pro-OPERA, and I VOTE!”

Major Finding

After completing a personal test, I can confirm that drinking black, unsweetened French Roast coffee while eating a prune IS NOT a satisfying combination.

I can’t vouch for other coffees, nor say whether sweetening the coffee has an effect.
