Fresh WP Frustrations

I don’t know, maybe WP has reached a limit on tags for me. Maybe it’s my ‘puter. Could be a technology curse, I suppose.

When I go to add ‘new tags’, WordPress burps. My cursor is bounced out of the box, and the new tag vanishes. Perplexing. I don’t experience this on other web sites.

Then again, my system was just updated last night. You know how updates sometimes go sideways with small matters.

My work-around was to save the draft, swing over to the iPad mini, and edit the post to add the tags in Jetpack.

Just more first world blues.

  1. It’s doing it to me, too. I got one post scheduled, did the next one, and bam. No tags except for the suggested ones. sigh
I’ll have to look at your solution with Jetpack. I have a Chromebook, and a Win 10 desktop, so. It happened on both machines, though.

    1. I did get to add tags when I went in on my posts dash, and used QuickEdit. The other offerings didn’t work. I first clicked on Jetpack; nothing at all happened. shrug

  2. I can definitely relate to your “first world blues.” It’s frustrating when something as simple as adding new tags in WordPress becomes a hurdle. Technology can be unpredictable, especially after system updates that seem to fix one issue but create another. Your description of the cursor bouncing out of the box and the new tag vanishing is perplexing indeed.

Your workaround of saving the draft and using your iPad mini with Jetpack is clever, but it’s a shame you have to jump through hoops to accomplish a basic task. Have you tried clearing your browser’s cache or using a different browser to see if that helps? Sometimes browser extensions or cached data can interfere with website functionality.

It’s also possible that WordPress has a limit on the number of tags, or there might be a glitch due to the recent update. Reaching out to WordPress support or checking their forums might provide a solution.

You’re not alone in facing these tech quirks, and it’s always comforting to know others experience similar hiccups. Hopefully, this issue gets resolved soon so you can get back to seamless blogging!

    1. I considered the limits on tags. That may have been it, and they simply increased the limit and fixed my issue. Don’t know. At any rate, it’s gone.

The workaround of trying other OS/machines/avenues is unfortunately born from tech experience. Just cuz it’s broken on on OS or type of machine doesn’t preclude it from working elsewhere.

And I’m back to seamless blogging, except for limitations created by thinking and typing. The fix came within two days. Thanks for your thoughts. Cheers

  3. Am so glad all is going smooth for you, Michael. Today (Dec14-2024) WordPress did ask me for tags even though I already had put them in. It printed without any tags so I went to “edit” but when I looked, all the tags were there including a couple I didn’t add! I think whatever it was decided to leave me alone when I sent it out on my site again…..cheeky little b***er!
