Witnessed

“Rim of the World.” She’d spoken without preamble. They’d been quiet for about ten minutes.

Breakfast plates were spread around the table in front of her, along with a cup on a saucer and a silver teapot. Appearing about sixty, she was looking at an iPad.

A man, about her age, sat to her right reading a newspaper. He said, “That’s a Netflix show.”

“It’s on Netflix,” she said.

“I just said that. It’s science fiction.”

“It’s about some kids.”

“I know. I took a look at a trailer and added it to my list. I’ve been thinking about watching it.”

“It’s science fiction.”

“I know. I just said that.”

“Maybe we ought to watch it. It sounds like something we’d like.”

He flipped his paper and turned the page. “I’ll check it out.”

Let Go

There had been decisions before, but things change, so new decisions were reached and accepted. What had been important became meaningless as priorities sifted like sand dunes.

Others ran into him, exchanging greetings, but then, privately told one another, “He’s really changed,” “Yes, he let himself go.”

They saw it as a bad thing.

The Obsession

Don’t you hate it when you’re out somewhere, and discover that you have something stuck between your teeth? It becomes an immediate obsession for your tongue while all you do is think is, how can I discreetly get this out? Meanwhile, you fight with the urge to just do something and get the frigging piece removed.

Whether

You ever look out the window to check the weather, and then check the weather online, and wonder whether the weather online is the weather for your area – or maybe it’s the wrong day – because it just doesn’t match?

Yeah.
