Cryptofloofency

Cryptofloofency (floofinition) – Mostly related to pets, animal activities, behaviors, and sounds which seem unique, mysterious, or unusual to other, most especially people who live with the animals. Origins: 1983, United States.

In Use: “One huge learning curve for people extending hospitality to floofs is cryptofloofency, strange things the fur critters like to do, such as galloping through rooms, sleeping in sinks, singing at midnight, opening doors, and going nuts over squirrels and other critters seen in their domain.”

Floofkaesque

Floofkaesque (floofinition)– Weird, surreal, or unusual noises or actions done by animals. Origins: 1990s Internet, based on Kafkaesque, a word derived from the writing style of Franz Kafka (1883-1924)

In Use: “When Oaou first joined the household, the small ginger whirlwind would come to the room entry where his people and bark like a small poodle, squawk like a parrot, or issue another floofkaesque noise, causing constant wonder about the little cat’s floofstory.”

In Use: “The crow was already friendly if floofkaesque, bringing shiny gifts such as metal tableware, bracelets, single socks, and plastic storage lids in return for the snacks Dee set out for him every morning and evening.”

Recent Use: “Social media provides many floofkaesque scenes, such as a video of a cat, dog, deer, and duck sitting together on the front porch of a person who has no pets.”

Inflooftuous

Inflooftuous (floofinition) – Disruptive animal incursions, behavior, or activities.

In use: “The bird was inflooftuous by nature, singing and dancing on his corner swing, but also commenting on people as they entered the house or went into the bathroom, often saying, ‘There’s trouble.'”

Agitfloof

Agitfloof (floofinition) 1. An animal who displays irritating habits or behavior, or makes sounds which others find annoying.

In use: “The three new puppies were adorable, but the boy — who became known as Mephistopheles — was an agitfloof with huge energy bands, galloping and attacking when the others were sleeping, curious about everything going on, and generally getting into the middle of all activities, invited or not.”

2. Play objects or behavior designed to spur animal’s physical activity and thinking.

In use: “The mousebot — Phelps’ nickname for the toy — was agitfloof that sent a mechanized furry gray mouse racing out of its little gray plastic hill, leading the kittens on a chase for five minutes before ducking back into its plastic hidey hole to dock and recharge.”

Genufloof

Genufloof (floofinition) 1. Gestures, sounds, and postures used to earn an animal’s trust.

In use: “Feral or near feral young animals often distrust humans because they don’t know them, so humans will genufloof by lowering themselves, trying to make themselves smaller, while speaking softly and holding out a non-threatening hand.”

2. A posturing system for exchanging greetings shared by animals with humans.

In use: “Whenever Michael and Papi encountered one another, they genufloofed, Papi by first stretching his front legs and then his back legs in long, leisurely moments, and Michael, by squatting down, saying, “Hello,” offering a kissing noise, and holding out a few fingers for the cat to rub against.”

Kinefloofics

Kinefloofics (floofinitions) – The branch of floofatics concerned with floof activity and motion without reference to the causal forces.

Floofbiotic

Floofbiotic (floofinition) – A relationship between two or more animals, or animals and human(s) characterized by being close, cooperative, or interdependent.

In use: “Although the dogs depended on her for their meals and exercise, she depended on them for emotional well-being and joy, a floofbiotic situation marked by doing almost everything together as the day’s minutes fly past.”

Floofbassador

Floofbassador (floofinition) – An animal who acts as an emissary or envoy of other animals.

In use: “A small kitty found in the backyard was fed. Little did the family knew the little one, which they called Spartacus, was an floofbassador, but the next day, a mama cat was there for food, along with three other little ones.”

Gumbyfloof

Gumbyfloof (floofinition) – Animal who stretches, curls up, or generally contorts itself in unusual positions.

In use: “Little black Crystal was a true gumbyfloof, tucking her head under in ridiculous positions when she was sleeping, and managing to twist and coil her way into weird places all over the house. Predicting where she might be found needed a true seer.”
