Monday’s Wandering Political Thoughts

We’re had the person of the year and the word of the year. There’s also been the song of the year and different performers of the year, and declarations about the book of the year. But after another school shooting [1] and the 2024 election results, maybe we need the question of the year. Could be, “What led to this?” Or, “What happened?”

I vote for the more classic, quintessential question, “Why?”

  1. Hi. Michael, I think that is a great question. To me the simplest way to understand it is why are nearly 50% of the country willing to regress all social rights gained since the 1960s back to nothing and eliminate those rights? Because they like all of us have been so bleed dry to the point where we simply struggle to have the basic needs, shelter with either warmth or cooling, food that is more than gruel, and transportation. All the things prior generations had but the Uber wealthy has bled the lower incomes to a point we fight over culture wars as our core identities seem to be the last things we have left to stand up for. The people feel powerless as thing after thing, Issue after issue was yanked away due to the wealthy being able to over spend all efforts of the lower ranks. And when I talk about the wealthy I do not forget the organizations such as religious groups and churches that fundraise to funnel large sums of money even from the faithful who have the least to enforce their church doctrine into US laws.
