The Letters Dream

I laughed in the dream at this dream because I felt an immediate understanding and it was funny to me.

The setting was very vague. Others were there and I engaged with them, but all of them were outside of the dream cam’s view. Sometimes I was outside on a green hill; other times, I was indoors. The indoors settings varied from being a restaurant, coffee shop, and office.

I was doing two primary things in the dream. One, words would come up, and I was putting them into order. I thought at first that they should be alphabetized, but then I thought that they should be ordered by association. In parallel to this, I was playing a computer game called “Word Whomp”. Seven letters are provided and you make words out of them while the clock is ticking. So I was making words on the computer game and ordering words off to the other side. Then I began taking the words that I was supposed to be ordering and started putting them into the game. The words were accepted, even though they weren’t made of the letters provided. Throughout this, I was talking with people off-stage.

It was at this point in the dream that I paused to wonder about what was going on. My first thought was, why am I organizing words like this? Hasn’t this already been done in items like dictionaries? Then I pondered why the game was letting me put in words that didn’t have the letters.

That’s when I laughed in the dream. I thought it was about the writing process and angst. And though I laughed and knew I was playing the game right and doing things the way they’re not supposed to be done, I kept going and had myself a fun time.

Three words remained in my memory from the dream: lacing, facing, and gracing.

Floofmance

Floofmance (floofinition) – a feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love for a pet or animal.

In use: “Although the dog weighed over a hundred pounds, he continued to get onto the man’s lap for a few minutes everyday to get and give love, continuing the floofmance begun when the puppy was found a starving one pound furball.”

Saturday’s Theme Music

Today’s song came out in 1955, a year before I was born. Mom played it a lot, so I learned it.

The carries the sound of that era, with a heartfelt delivery of the song’s sentiments. The lyrics are timeless. It’s a song that I think everyone should think is about them.

Only you, can make this world seem right
Only you, can make the darkness bright
Only you, and you alone, can thrill me like you do
And fill my heart with love for only you

O-only you, can make this change in me
For it’s true, you are my destiny
When you hold my hand, I understand the magic that you do
You’re my dream come true, my one and only you

I guess some nostalgia has slipped into my stream. Here’s the Platters with “Only You (and You Alone)”.

Stuff Gets in the Way

It was a heavy night of dreams. One was remembered with strength and clarity. I wrote it all up but then decided against posting it.

Then, had imaging appointments this morning. One turned into two because the place where they sent me didn’t have the necessary special equipment needed for my imaging. That required me to go to a hospital in another city, where they had the right gear. The first imaging department told me that they’d spoken to the second, and the second wanted me to go right over. I did. Arriving there, they asked me why I was there two hours early.

Umm, whaattt?

I was told they’d see me when they could but I might need to wait. Rushing out of the house, I’d forgotten the book I was reading so I had nothing to do while waiting, except, gasp, stream music to myself, watch people, and think. Grrr.

Here’s a humorous little sidebar to that. I forgot the book because my phone rang as I went to get the book just before leaving the house. Diverted to the phone, I checked the number and didn’t recognize. Well, I was already close to being late and wasn’t going to answer the phone for a caller that wasn’t identified. As I left, I thought, what if it’s imaging, calling to tell me there’s a problem and my appointment has been cancelled, ha, ha.

I was really surprised when that turned out to be the case. Imaging told me that they’d called calling me to stop me from coming in, etc.

By the time I sat to wait in the proper location, a rant was forming. I didn’t feel up to a rant, but I’m letting some of it leak out now.  Just as I’d sat and contemplated the rant, my name was called. The imaging director came out to apologize to me, take me back and get my procedure done, so yea.

That pleased me but then the staff started asking me, what are we doing to you? My intelligent response was, “Ummm.” Next the doctor shows and asked me, “Do you know why we’re doing this?”

I gave him an explanation of my understanding. He nodded. “Okay, that makes sense.”

It was all done twenty minutes later.

Then I was here to write. I had an excellent writing day yesterday. I’d ended on a cliffhanger the previous day. I had no idea where it was supposed to go. But when I ordered my coffee and sat down to write, I knew what to write, and did it. The process illuminated more of the novel’s concept and story, surprising me. I always credit the muses for my creative process’ tortuosity, but I know it’s all my brain. Whether it’s muses or my brain, the process, which is apparently transparent to me, remains a source of surprise and delight.

Got my coffee. Know what time it is? Yep, time to write like crazy, at least one more time.

Aquafloof

Aquafloof (floofinition) – a housepet who enjoys water. Note: feline and canine aquafloofs are respectively commonly called aquacats and aquadogs.

In use: “Wherever, whenever water was turned on, the dog, born from a liaison between a beagle and a collie, galloped in. If he wasn’t restrained, he leaped into the water – bath, lawn sprinklers, whatever. The aquafloof could never get enough of water.”

Friday’s Theme Music

Today’s choice came right out my morning. Cats were hungry and wanted fed but my urine collection bag was full. So I was apologizing to the cats (of course), telling them, “Sorry, you need to wait. My bag is full.”

That invited ZZ Top’s “Just Got Paid” (1972) into my stream. There’s a line that riffs off a classic nursery room, “Black sheep, black sheep, have you got some wool? Yes, I do, man, my bag is full.” See how it all works?

Sorry if I’m sharing too much about the whole urine, bladder, catheter, pecker thing. My wife thinks I need to think about my boundaries.

I just shrug.

Floof-quest

Floof-quest (floofinition) – the effort to find a housepet, whether as an addition to the home or because it’s missing; a housepet’s effort to find something or someone.

In use: “A floof-quest was begun because they couldn’t find the cat, but several suspected the cat had gone on a spiritual floof-quest around the neighborhood, and would return home when it was completed.”
