Floofductive

Floofductive (floofinition) – measures taken to reduce or control a dog or cat’s run of the house.

In use: “She used floofductives such as stern orders that the cat cannot jump onto the table or counter, and the dog could not sit on the sofa, but sometimes she came home to discover evidence that both events took place while she was away.”

Floofverine

Floofverine (floofinition) – a cat or dog that reminds people of a wolverine, either by physical appearance or behavior.

In use: “His little white and gray cat with the blue eyes was such a little glutton that he began calling her his little floofverine, leading him to name her, Hugh Jackman. He often called her Hugh, Jack, or Jackman, but his favorite alias for her remained Floofverine. It didn’t matter, because she answered to all of it, so long as he was offering her something to eat.”

Enfloofopedia

Enfloofopedia (floofinition) – a reference work or compendium providing summaries of information from all branches of knowledge about cats, dogs, and other house pets.

In use: “Observing his cats and dogs and their interplay and maintaining insightful notes, he soon developed the world’s first enfloofopedia.”

Straddle-floof

Straddle-floof (catfinition) – a common game played in households with pets. The game’s simple goal is to straddle a household pet, such as a dog or cat, and walk over it when it’s encountered, rather than walking around the pet, or making it get up and move. Scoring is based on the degree of difficulty, such as items being carried, the level of light, the pet’s size and the number of pets. Bonus points are offered if the pet is asleep and they’re straddled without being disturbed.

In use: “He had a shopping bag in each arm and a large sleeping cat in the middle of the hall rug, a perfect straddle-floof set-up — and he was wearing shoes. He imagined an announcer speaking in hushed golfing tones saying, “He’s going for it.””

Floofolite

Floofolite (catfinition) – a small but fully grown housepet; a pet that likes to orbit around other pets.

In use: “Between his floofolites — a ragdoll cat and a teacup chihuahua — his pets’ combined weight was less than the average Thanksgiving turkey.”

“The little long-haired cat became a floofolite to the big Husky. Wherever the dog was, the cat was present, too, as though the dog’s gravity had captured the feline.”

Floofeit

Floofeit (catfintion) – something given up because the cat or another household pet wants it.

In use: “He accepted that he would floofeit his office chair to the cat. Although he tried to race her in and claim the chair, she was quicker and smarter. Yes, he told himself, he was the human, and she was the pet. He could move her and claim the chair, but she looked so sweet.”

Floofcular

Floofcular (catfinition) – round sleeping position favored by many house pets.

In use: “The little black-pawed cat was often discovered in a floofcular in a living room or closet corner.”

Floofvalanche

Floofvalanche (catfinition) – a mass of furry house pets rapidly piling onto something or someone, frequently referenced as a catvalanche when it involves felines.

In use: “A kinder of kittens descended upon him, followed by Mama Cat, but it was the husky, trying to be part of the game, that turned the cuddle-puddle into a floofvalanche.”

Catmesticate

Catmesticate (catfintion) – a sustained, multi-generational attempt to keep felines as pets over which humans exercise control.

In use: “Scientists agree that dogs are domesticated, but after studying the history of cats and humans, concluded that they can’t agree that cats have become domesticated. The conclusion prompted catologists to create a new term, catmesticate, in an effort to define the roles and relationships between cats and humans.”

Floofdar

Floofdar (catfinition) – a cat or dog’s ability to detect another animal’s presence that evades human awareness.

In use: “Something apparently triggered Flash’s floofdar, for awakening and rising, she trotted to the window sill and peered out. Whatever she saw prompted her to issue a low warning growl. Nan, watching and listening, said, “How did you know something was there? You were dead asleep.” She got up to see what triggered her cat’s floofdar.”
