Hellfloof(floofinition) – Animal who causes a great deal of mischief.
In use: “Many kittens and puppies seem like hellfloof but grow out of it as their personality emerges. Some, though, cultivate a gleam in their eye, and seem to search and find new and unusual trouble.”
Avante-floof(floofinition) – The advance animals of a group.
In use: “Among the six Dutch shepherd puppies, two females, Eureka and Electra, were the avante-floof, coming out first to see what was going on or who had arrived.”
Floofhouse(floofinition) – Location or home dedicated to providing a place of safety and companionship with and for animals.
In use: “Home to dozens of animals, many which were rescues, the small blue cottage on the corner up the hill became known as the floofhouse. It seemed like the sun was always shining there, giving many places for animals to play, doze, and groom.”
Floofsient (floofinition) – An animal who stays in a place on a temporary basis or for a brief period.
In use: “People often bring animals in as floofsients, fostering, socializing, and protecting the animals as they heal. Sometimes the floofsients decide that they’ve found home, making it a foster fail.”
JOSWAF(floofinition) – Joy Of Sleeping With A Floof.
In use: “JOSWAF offers many advantages, such as relaxing you more deeply, but on the flip side, JOSWAF also makes it more difficult to get out of bed.”
Floofcology(floofinition) – The branch of life that deals with the relations of animals with one another and to their surroundings.
In use: “Having seven counts, three dogs, a bird (and counting), they decided that one household member should be the minister of floofcology to track supplies and oversee the animals’ care. Although only eleven, Sabina immediately volunteered.”
You’d think that today’s song, with a cat in the title, was inspired by an interaction with a cat. Nope; didn’t happen that way.
“Honky Cat” by Elton John (1972) came to me because of the line, “Change is gonna do me good.” I was asked to help another. Helping them would force a change to my comfortable, protected routines. But I wanted to help, hence, I told myself, “Change is gonna do me good.”
Turned out, my help wasn’t needed, etc. By then, though, “Honky Cat” was roaring in the stream. Not that I mind that. Its jaunty sound fit my mood.
Now I’m gonna go look for gold in a silver mine, then drink a little whiskey from a bottle of wine. Always enjoyed those lines.
Floofcard(floofinition) – 1. A greeting card or postcard decorated by animal images, likenesses, or caricatures.
In use: “Everyone knew he loved animals (especially dogs), so floofcards were given to him for every occasion.”
2. A greeting card presented to an animal as part of a celebration or recognition.
In use: “She knew it was silly, but her cat was twenty-one years old. A special meal and a floofcard acknowledging the day and achievement was the very least of what should be done.”
Floofager (floofinition) – An animal who seems to be ageless or timeless.
In use: “The miniature poodle remained a spirited floofager, roaming the house to find whatever was making a noise, inspecting the gardens, guarding the food, and checking everyone’s food to ensure it was safe.”
