Saturda’s Theme Music

It’s rainy spring weather and things are blooming in Ashlandia. Temperatures are below average for March 22 in 2025. Right now, we’re anchored to 45 F under a cloudy duvet. Saturda’s high is projected to be ten degrees higher. Don’t even think winter has ended. This is definitely sprinter. I can recall several years here when blooming flowers are surrounded by snow on Easter morning.

Butter Butt, aka Papi the ginger blade, the floof formerly known as Meep has had a busy several days. Getting ready for warming weather, he’s been exercising his exits and entrances, honing his skills to command us to let him in and out of the house, and testing the doors to ensure they open without any problems. He’s been very thorough and diligent. His routine begins around 4:30 AM and goes with few pauses until 10 AM. You gotta admire his tenacity.

Today’s theme music seems like it was destined. My wife and I ran errands and had breakfas out yesterday. When we returned to the car after eating, this song began playing. My wife commented, “This song was playing when we parked.” She was right.

That wasn’t enough, though. We went grocery shopping. Came out and got into the car. Turned it on. It was this song again.

We went home and put away the groceries. I drove off to write. When I got in the car to come on, the same song began playing. It’s little surprise that The Neurons sprang it on me in my morning mental music stream as I circulated through the morning routines. So here is Rosé and Bruno Mars with their 2024 hit, “Apt.”

It’s fun and silly, with multiple pop-cultures nods from famous songs and scenes embedded in it. Hope you enjoy it. As Rosé is a K-pop artist who is a member of Blackpink, her global success with this song is culturally and historically significant.

I’ve tumbled for coffee again, and things are already lookin’ up. Hope your day is lookin’ up as well. Here we go. Cheers

Saturday’s Theme Music

We have liftoff. Saturday, June 18, 2022, is climbing through time, leaving its contrails behind for us to study.

Cloudy is today’s word. Chilly is related, with us staring at 52 F at the moment, hoping for something in the sixties. Hoping is a strong sentiment; my wife, cats, and I are all comfortable with the low fifties and some dabble of sunshine. Rain potential hangs above us with the clouds asking, “Will I? Will I?” Such capricious characters. Sunrise drew the curtains open on the daylight hours at 5:34 AM and the obverse is at 8:50 PM. Our weather is better than places like Spain, where they’re baking in 40 degrees C, which, using the formula learned in school eons ago, translates to 104 F. Ouch, yeah?

Cats and neurons conspired behind my back to plunk a Bruno Mars song into the morning mental music stream. I’d stirred from dreams this morning. Ready and waiting, Tucker pounced on my hand, tapping it for some loving. I began scratching him as directed. He reciprocated with motor-boat purrs. I asked in sotto voce, “You like how that makes you feel?” Just like that, the neurons delivered a ten-year-old song, “Locked Out of Heaven”. It bothered me a little as I song it to myself after feeding the cats and preparing my breakfast, because Bruno sings, “‘Cause your sex takes me to paradise, yeah, you sex takes me to paradise.” I told the neurons, you guys are a little bizarre, you know?

Stay positive, test negative, mask up as needed, space out as required, and, you know. Here’s the music. I hear a cup of coffee singing the song of my people. Cheers

Sunday’s Theme Music

Sunrise/sunset: 7:25 AM/5:24 PM. So close to ten hours of daylight! We almost made it. Oh, well, tomorrow is a new month.

It’s a sleepy Sunday, this last day of January, 2021. Rainy but 44 degrees F here, with sun breaks, a good day for reading a book and napping. The cats are for it.

Homemade minestrone soup is simmering in the slow cooker and filling the air with spices and veggies. Such a lazy-feeling day needs a lazy day song, say, “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars (2011). It’s a silly song but silly songs can be good.

Stay positive, etc. Too lazy to put in more, you know? Maybe I’ll get some coffee, maybe I’ll write. We’ll see.

Thursday’s Theme Music

I’ve been thinking about the Bruno Mars song, “Marry You” (2010).

It’s a bouncy song with a 1960s dance bop flavor to it that begins with a little setting.

It’s a beautiful night
We’re looking for something dumb to do
Hey baby
I think I wanna marry you

So, the essence I take is that they’re bored, so they’re getting married, not for love or romance, or so you’ll have someone with you to cope with disappointment and strive to get ahead, but because there’s nothing better to do. There is a touch of romance because he later confesses that maybe it’s the look in her eyes. But, it could also be the dancing juice. So…you know….

Later, he sings that if they break up, that’s okay.

If we wake up and you wanna break up that’s cool
No, I won’t blame you
It was fun, girl

But, you know, why not, right? Just say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah. There are a lot of fun flash mobs out there around this song. Naturally, they involve someone asking someone else to marry them. I keep wondering if they plan to stay together, or was it just something fun to do?

Today’s Theme Music

Decided to do something more recent and upbeat. The mental jukebox came up with Bruno Mars, ‘Just the Way You Are’. Hey, it’s only six years ago it was released. That’s like yesterday in beer years.

This is a good song for walking around and singing. In fact, I witnessed just an episode about two weeks ago. I was walking. Another guy approached from the other direction. I could tell he was singing but couldn’t yet make it out. It was clear he was budded up. And then, crossing the street, he sang loudly, in a pretty close approximation of the right key:

And when you smile
The whole world stops and stares for a while
‘Cause, girl, you’re amazing
Just the way you are.

I smiled to myself, impressed that he was so willing to sing aloud.

Sing along. Don’t worry about the key.
