Wednesday’s Theme Music

We come now to the weekly pause, the groan, the hump, the mid-point, the end of the beginning, and the beginning of the end. Or is it? Depends on your working hours and routines. For those who worked a lifetime, Wednesday might forever be a mid-point as thoughts go by, my God, Wednesday. Then they laugh, because they no longer care about Wednesdays.

Today is April 28, 2021, another day in semi-lock down, depending upon your status, political views on science, country, county, nation, state, household, needs. The sun made its bold entry at 6:11 AM, and it was a sight, piercing the air after a fanfare of growing light. Sun decline — makes as much sense as down, when you think about what’s going on (how’s that work in the flatworld?) — comes at 8:07 PM. Four more minutes and we’ll make the fourteen hour mark for sunshine.

Temperature’s reflect it, with the sun pushing the highs back into the upper seventies today. Ah, I am enjoying it.

Yet — awakening atb5:56 AM (per Meep’s schedule), I listened and then thought, ah, the heat is on.

Boom. Hello Glenn Frey, with his 1984 single, “The Heat is On” from the fil-lum, Beverly Hills Cop, which was a fun flick.

Stay positive, test negative, wear a mask, and get the vax. Cheers

Sunday’s Theme Music

Today’s theme music is lifted from a movie, Beverly Hills Cop, which starred Eddie Murphy. No reason to select this except it entered this morning’s stream, and I enjoy the man’s music and this song. Despite being a popular rocker, this song is his only number one hit in the U.S., and he didn’t even write the music.

From 1987, enjoy Bob Seger with “Shakedown”.

Sunday’s Theme Music

Warm temperatures keep reminding me of songs about heat and the hot air. The late Glenn Frey performed this one as part of his solo act after the Eagles disbanded, and it was included in Beverly Hills Cop starring Eddie Murphy .

Here is “The Heat Is On” from 1984.

Today’s Theme Music

This is another one from my military annals.

I was stationed with the 7405th Ops Squadron at Rhein-Mein AB in Germany in the late 1980s. This song, ‘Roxanne’ by the Police came out in 1978. The movie was featured in ‘Beverly Hills Cops’ with Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte in 1984. Yet, here we were seeking it at a fundraiser five years later.

We had an charity unit, the Tipplers. Joining the Tipplers cost five dollars. The Tipplers subsidized purchases that were then sold to members at cost. This things included our squadron coins and memorabilia, and the squadron wine. But this organization was mainly about charity. We supported an orphanage in Spain and another one in Germany. We also supported the annual Marine toy drive for Christmas and a few other charities throughout the year.

I was the Tipplers secretary for a few years, an elected position, at was so at this particular event. Several organizations on base had donated money, time and material to build a booth that could be used for these things. Setting up the booth on a cold sunny morning in the Main Exchange parking lot, we were grilling hamburgers and cheeseburgers and selling them to people entering and leaving the exchange.

I have a habit of singing to myself. On that morning, as I manned the service counter and awaited customers, I began singing ‘Roxanne’.

Except I was doing it like Eddie Murphy’s character in BHC, slightly loud and off key.

And my unit decided to sing along with me.

I laugh even looking back at it. Bunch of people in jeans, jackets and hats, trying to keep warm, grilling burgers and selling them, singing ‘Roxanne’.

Ah, good times.
