Friday’s Theme Music

Mood: sizzlin’

Greetings from Ashlandia, where the heat stays on. It’s Friday, July 12, 2024. July has been a flaming month. Formalling started on July 4th, when the thermometers were showing it’s over 100 F and has barely eased. For today, we’ll tap one degree below 100. It’s a pleasant morning now, though, 68 at my house after falling to 62 F. Tomorrow, we go back to 100 F. Sunday is expected to drop into the low 90s, kicking off a stretch where our highs will crest in the 90s and the lows overnight will find the mid to upper sixties.

Air looks pretty good. Blue cloudless sky looks particulate free, except over in the horizon’s northwestern sector. Probably from the Salt Creek fire. They’re making good progress on it with a lot of mopping up going on. They warned that we’d probably see greater smoke last night, as we did, because they started a fire inside the containment line to fight to fire to keep it from jumping the fire line.

Boy howdy, that cool night air was invigorating, friends. As the sun slipped away and the temperatures slithered down below 80, I slid open the bedroom slider and the cats and I reveled in it. I’ve been sleeping atop the duvet, not bothering with even a coverlet, but I awoke cold enough that I pulled a light blanket over me. Tucker (pronounced Tuckah) stayed with me most of the night but as I got up to open the slider’s screen door to let Papi in and out (and in and out, repeat), Tucker said, “Hey, I want to go out there, too.” The boy has been feeling the heat, and his age.

Well, read news last night that the Beastie Boys were suing some restaurant over use of their song, “Sabotage”, from 1991. As soon as The Neurons were informed, they pulled the song from their mental file cabinet (my brain still uses paper but they’re talking about going digital) and now it’s blasting in the morning mental music stream (Trademark melting). As with many songs I enjoy, I’d never seen the video for it. Seeing it today is like a smack in the face from a wayback machine. Great fun.

Stay positive and be strong, and Vote Blue in 2024, and return President Biden to the Oval Office. Coffee and I have come to terms and are getting along swell. Here’s the music video, directed by Spike Jonze. Hey ho, let’s go. Cheers

Saturday’s Theme Music

Mood: sparkling

Wow. Saturday, we have blue sky, and I can see across to forever. Rained most of the first day of September. September 2, 2023 gives us almost smoke free sky and the best air quality numbers in over a month in Ashlandia, where the roads are under construction and the people are weary. 60 F now, we expect sunshine and thunderstorms, along with a high in the mid to upper seventies. Feels like summer is throwing a final hurrah.

We have had a great deal of road work going on in town. Repaving, along with fixing sidewalks and building ADA bump-out corners. Slowed us down a little, but given that our vehicular traffic is miniscule, our slow downs are nothing like the frustrating encounters of San Jose & San Francisco, CA, or Frankfurt,
Germany, Seattle, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Boston, San Antonio, Chicago, etc. There are advantages to small town living, and that what’s we are.

I had Wham singing “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” ringing through the morning mental music stream (Trademark tested). I don’t know how The Neurons came up with that. Nothing about their reasoning peered through the morning fog. They wouldn’t answer any queries about it, either. Crickets to however I phrased things. No reply at all, as Phil Collins sang.

Then I saw something about the Beastie Boys on social media and “You gotta fight for your right to paartay” blared through the morning mental music stream. However, that only lasted until I saw news of Jimmy Buffet’s death. Then a medley of his songs swam into the morning mental music stream. Which to go with?

Well, the choice wasn’t mine. The Neurons resumed with Beastie Boys and won’t let it out of the morning mental music stream. So, here we go with today’s choice about rights; “You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!) from 1986 is today’s theme music. But I will comment on Buffett. His mellow music, with a touch of whimsy introspection, was a regular car companion on long drives across the states and Europe for a number of years. That easy-going style was a good remedy for stress in many days. He’s gone, but technology will keep him alive for us.

Stay pos and strong. The coffee cup cometh. Here’s the boys with their Saturday theme music. Time to bop heads. You gotta admit, it’s a quaint video. Cheers

Friday’s Theme Music

You ever have one of those days when you think, today will be a good day to skip work? Mostly happens to me on a Friday.

Hey, look, it’s Friday. At least, you know, in this quanta of existence.

I can’t stop being me which brings me to the conundrum of wanting to laze around and wanting to go get ’em! I thought, a little soothing music, and I’ll be good to go.

Here’s Beastie Boys with “Sure Shot” (1994).

It’s fun time.
