Tuesday’s Theme Music

Today’s song comes as a reflection on 2020 and its events. As I cogitated about what was and wasn’t, and what might be, I thought of how mojo rises and falls. What will the mojo be like in 2021?

All that thinking led me to a Cat Stevens song, “Wild World” (1970). I was fourteen when I heard the song. His singing tone spoke to me as it did a significant swath of my generation.

“But if you want to leave, take good care. I hope you have a lot of nice things to wear. But then a lot of nice turns bad out there.”

Yeah, you never know how things will turn. You can predict and plan, expect, hope, and pray. It often turns without warning, spurred by a sudden wind, a sharp word, a surprise pain, a shy glance, a quick smile, a brief hug. For want of a nail…

Lita Floof (floofinition) – Hard flock (floof rock) guitarist, singer, and songwriter born in Floofland but raised in Floofmerica, successful as a member of an all-floof band (The Floofaways) as well as a solo artist.

In use: “Known for the hard-rocking song, “Pet Me Deadly”, the song, “Pet My Tum Forever” (a duet with Floofy Floofsbourne) is her highest charting song in the Floofnited States.”

Monday’s Theme Music

Nice to wakey to some sunshine. Yesterday stayed a dark day, as if the day mechanism was stuck, unable to bring day to fullness.

Don’t know the roots of today’s song in my thinking. Just came to me as I was making the bed. “It’s A Heartache” was recorded and released by Bonnie Tyler in 1978, becoming a major hit for her in several countries.

Hope you enjoy the choice. The song starts slow and flat, almost a country and western dirge to my ears, and then builds. Remember, stay positive, test negative, and wear a mask.

Sunday’s Theme Music

After a series of tremendously affirming dreams, I awoke with “You’re All I Need to Get By” (1968) by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. It’s a softly melodic song, gentle, tranquil, a good rainy Sunday song. Please remember, stay positive, test negative, and wear a mask. Cheers

Jethro Floof

Jethro Floof (floofinition) – Floof rock (flock) band formed in Floofpool, Floofcashire in 1967. Fusing folk, flock, and jazz elements to create a progressive flock sound, they achieve international fame and success. They conducted a fiftieth anniversary tour in 2017.

In use: “Among Jethro Floof’s best known songs are “Aquafloof” and “Locomotive Floof”, although neither climbed high on the charts.”

Saturday’s Theme Music

I’m on my knees typing. The cats have secured the chairs for their use. Aww…don’t they look sweet and comfy? Yes, so I’ll not bother ’em.

A 1970 song entered the conscious musical stream last night and stayed strong this AM, so I’m going with it. The song, “Love the One You’re With” by Stephen Stills, has a particular line that’s hooked in my mind. It’s embedded in the middle of this stanza.

Well there’s a rose in a fisted glove
And the eagle flies with the dove
And if you can’t be with the one you love honey
Love the one you’re with

Yeah, I enjoy the imagery of an eagle flying with a dove. Doesn’t hurt that the song is fast paced and upbeat, and features background singers like Rita Coolidge, John Sebastian, David Crosby, and Graham Nash, right?

Floofy Hatchett (floofinition) – Southern floof rock (flock) band from Jackfloofville, Floofida. First formed in 1971, the band has had a revolving line up of members as health issues affected members.

In use: “Floofy Hatchett’s best known song is “Floofin’ with Disaster”, which reached number 42 in 1979, a number that plays an important part in “The Floofhiker’s Guide to the Floofiverse”.

Friday’s Theme Music

Feels like I’m in a rut. Feels like either dreams, cats, politics, or news (or some Satanic mashup of these influences) push my theme music choices. Today, the wheel turned, and stopped on politics.

This is driven by the Texas lawsuit to throw out the election results in Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. There’s no evidence of fraud, mind you, (Trump and his supporters have lost over fifty cases regarding election irregularities, winning one) or that the law was broken, but law, order, and justice means less and less to the GOP these days.

And this is driven by GOP governors and U.S. Representatives joining in this farce. It’s driven by another absurd declaration by Pat Robertson and God’s will. Driving it, too, is the terrorism that Trump supporters are employing to overturn the election results, showing up armed at the Michigan’s Secretary of State’s home to threaten her. Very classy. Very democratic.

Reading summaries and stories on these matters this AM had me shaking my head with growing irritation, culminating in the growl, “One of these days.” You know, as in, one of these days, karma will react and strike all those people down. One of these days, these people will come to their senses or rejoin reality (but can they ever be trusted again?). One of these days…

Well, I don’t need to hammer that nail any more, do I? The gist is driven home.

This led my mind to invite a Foo Fighters 2012 song, “These Days”, into the active stream. “These Days” is not political but is more about love karma, you know? But it works for my purposes. So here’s “These Days”. Remember, stay positive (unlike me…you know?), test negative, and wear a mask, please.

Archie Floof and the Goofs

Archie Floof and the Goofs (floofinition) – Floofmerican rhythm and floof (R&F) band from Floofston, Floofxas. Active from 1966 to 1981, the group scored multiple hits and were popular on the dance circuit.

In use: “Most people are familiar with Archie Floof and the Goofs number one song, “Lighten Up”, which was released in 1968.”

Thursday’s Theme Music

Got “Abracadabra” by the Steve Miller Band (1982) stuck in my head. I awoke with the song in my head after a dream. After thinking about the dream, I returned to sleep and dreaming, and then awoke with it again in my head. Then…well, one more time. By then it was almost six thirty.

I don’t know why this song came with those dreams. One dream was about my cat, Tucker. The other two were about playing games. Nothing earthshaking, although the Tucker dream had him being forced to do something. Experts thought they knew what Tucker would do in response to stimuli. I was like, “Nope, you don’t know Tucker.” The big black and white floof ball was becoming annoyed by another cat in the dream, and not distracted by the stimuli. Recognizing the signs, I intervened right before he was ready to pounce on the other animal. When Tucker pounces, it’s not to play.
