Floofvinist (floofinition) – Showing or having excessive favoritism to a particular animal or group of animals.
In use: “A staunch floofvinist, Belle defended her trio of felines against any suggestions that they were anything but the best cats in the world, especially when some neighbor stormed over with tales about Belle’s kitties violating the neighbor’s flower beds to do their business.”
Floofmaster (floofinition) 1. Animal which is in charge of, or controls, people, or other animals.
In use: “Sherman was a small dog with a deep bark, a large heart, and immense fearlessness, attributes which led him to being an unquestioned floofmaster, instilling neighborhood order, breaking up fights, and fostering friendships.”
2. A person who effectively bridges gaps with animals with words and actions.
In use: “Introduced to animals at a young age, Jill was soon a floofmaster who could calm animals and instill trust, leading her to home the most recalcitrant of animals, animals which would otherwise never know a home.”
Floofophile (floofinition) – A person who greatly admires animals, or favors them in dealings.
In use: “After being friendly with animals for most of his life and a true felinophile since he was a boy, Chas met a woman with dogs and birds, and was overnight a floofophile forever.”
Kind of weird to hear “olden times” used in reference to the “yellow pages”.
Floofée Fixe (floofinition) – an animal that dominates a person’s mind, especially for a prolonged period, sometimes becoming a floofsession.
In use: “Gavin spotted the big, skinny dog with matted white fur several times at dusk. Gaining the name, Ghost, because of the circumstances of when she saw him, he rapidly became a floofée fixe as she started watching for him, leaving food and water for him, and then developing plans to catch and save him.”
Stopped by Starbucks yesterday to meet a friend. They had a big display up celebrating twenty years of the pumpkin spice flavor. I remembered the first time I ever had one. My wife and I lived in Half Moon Bay, California. Relatives from the eastern US were visiting. An oddly chilly, damp day, we went to the Tech Museum in San Jose. Not far away was a Starbucks. We walked to it to get a hot coffee drink and on a whim, several of us had pumpkin spice lattes. The flavor surprised and impressed me.
But they or I changed in the intervening time. I had a sampler they’d put up; after a sip, the tastebuds said, “Oh, god, no.” I tossed it.
Floof-fi (floofinition) Fiction focused on animals and their struggles, lives, and relationships.
In use: “The Art of Racing In the Rain and Life of Pi are modern examples of floof-fi — both adapted into movies — but his favorite remained May Sarton’s book, The Fur Person, about Tom Jones, a stray who takes up life with Sarton and her partner.”
Floofditional (floofinition) Handed down from animal to animal as a custom.
In use: “Unbending to the house’s floodtitional approach to who sleeps where — floof #1 always got the bed — the new kitten, RBG, decided she would sleep where she wanted and when she wanted, and exhibited so much charm and confidence, the other animals moved over.”
