Sunday’s Theme Music

The results are in: it’s Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022. Got to recondition myself to put in the new year. Used to be quite a challenge when check writing was the norm.

Windy today. Warming up but inches of snow still bury all but the streets. 39 F right now, up from 25, on the way to 45 F. The 7:40 AM sunrise was a low watt affair, a lazy crawl of light over the valley’s shadows. Sunset is anticipated at 4:51 PM.

We’d planned a walk yesterday, as unoriginal as a ton of people also thought would be a great idea for the new year. Encountering friends, though, we were given warnings. People were falling; the footing was treacherous. An abort was called. Weather brought to mind a Phish song, “Seven Below” that I used to hear on the radio on the alt adult radio stations around 2002, 2003. For the record, Phish Food is my favorite Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor. Here’s the official description: “Chocolate Ice Cream with Gooey Marshmallow Swirls, Caramel Swirls & Fudge Fish”

Blue, splinter and grow
New crystals of snow
Seen several kinds
Through seven below

Simple lyrics, right? h/t to AZLyrics.com.

Horofloof

Horofloof (floofinition) – Animal’s sense of time, ability to maintain a schedule, and their associated method of tracking time.

In use: “Humans are often amazed by their pet’s horofloof, especially when dogs go to the door to greet their returning people. Scientists speculate that this might be because dogs note that their people’s smell has faded. Animals, however, know that as an amusing theory; their minds are attuned to the cosmic view that lets them see beyond the immediate moment.”

Saturday’s Theme Music

Today is Saturday, January 1, 2022. It’s 28 degrees outside, up from 22. The snow remains under blue skies and bright sunshine. Today’s high will be 35 degrees F.

Sunrise was sharp and clear at 7:40 AM, with an assertive sun climbing over the mountains to dazzle the eye, highlighting the snow’s peaks, bluing the shadows. Sunset is due at 4:50 PM.

For reasons not transparent to me, The Killers song “Read My Mind” (2007) is manhandling the morning mental music stream. I think it’s simple word play association. I was thinking about the ‘good ol’ days’. That’s a line featured in the song.

The good old days, the honest man
The restless heart, the Promised Land
A subtle kiss that no one sees
A broken wrist and a big trapeze
Oh, well, I don’t mind if you don’t mind
‘Cause I don’t shine if you don’t shine
Before you go, can you read my mind?

The Baggage Dream

I thought this a great dream to experience on New Year’s Eve/Day. I was traveling as a young man. Not sure what the transpo means were. Seemed like a planes, trains, and automobile variation. I’d stopped at a cafe to eat. It seemed like a cafe but it had a huge eating area, lot of floor space, and many tables. It was packed with travelers. Most were happy. Many were children and families.

I found a place and put my baggage on a table, then went up and ordered. Just three people were behind the counter, serving all these people. I ordered a sandwich. I thought it would take a while but the sandwich was quickly prepared and given to me. I took it back to my table to eat.

While I ate, I decided to clean out my baggage, which was a dark burgundy backpack. As I went through, I discovered it was full of stuff from previous travels. I frequently recognized things from visits to other places, and chuckling, tossed most of it into the trash. Then I neatly tidied what I was keeping. When I finished, my baggage was light, clean, and organized. I went on to meet my father. He was there to give me a gift. I told him that I was on my way to a new job. He was pleased for me.

Happy new year.
