This is an almost perfect analogy for novel writing for me. I know I’m crossing the valley. I have no idea how to do it, so I see a tree and I head for it.

The Writey Sense
Ever read a news article that excites your writey senses and muses, a feeling that, “OMG, there’s a book that I want to write!”
That’s the writey sense, that internal mass that stays on alert to concepts, characters, settings, and ideas, looking for the next story or novel.
Just happened to me. I read a news article about a man who killed himself during a traffic stop. The police found a woman’s body in the trunk. I immediately flashed onto a title, “The Woman in the Trunk”. My inner writers and muses began marshaling scenes, including opening lines. I could feel the writing energy developing.
Despite the excitement (and the anxiety, what if I’m blowing off a great novel?), I had to tell them, sorry, not today. We’re doing other things, such as editing novels that are already in progress.
They weren’t happy.
Floofolite
Floofolite (catfinition) – a small but fully grown housepet; a pet that likes to orbit around other pets.
In use: “Between his floofolites — a ragdoll cat and a teacup chihuahua — his pets’ combined weight was less than the average Thanksgiving turkey.”
“The little long-haired cat became a floofolite to the big Husky. Wherever the dog was, the cat was present, too, as though the dog’s gravity had captured the feline.”
Monday’s Bumper Sticker
A boldly honest statement, perhaps, but it was spotted on a twenty year old red Honda Civic. Perhaps they thought they were being ironic or satirical.
Floofeit
Floofeit (catfintion) – something given up because the cat or another household pet wants it.
In use: “He accepted that he would floofeit his office chair to the cat. Although he tried to race her in and claim the chair, she was quicker and smarter. Yes, he told himself, he was the human, and she was the pet. He could move her and claim the chair, but she looked so sweet.”
