River of Words

Coffee is cold. A quarter of the cup remains. Writer’s butt has set in. Hunger pangs trouble my stomach. Time to drink down the last dregs of cold coffee and head home to fill other needs and fulfillment.

It’s been an invigorating day of writing like crazy. Like, the stream of words is a swollen, raging river of scenes. I just needed to dip in and hang on. Third book of the Incomplete States trilogy is taking shape. The first drafts of the first two books are being mildly reshaped to fit what else is developing. Excitement pushes me to keep writing, keep writing, but pragmatism says, stop for now. Don’t worry. The river of words will keep flowing.

Thursday’s Theme Music

Streaming from Australia, again, and Men at Work, again. This one came out on their second album, in 1983. The streaming in my head was triggered by a cat. I’d been asleep. They wanted out. Guess what happened? Yeah. The cat’s will be done.

Returning to bed, I started writing in my head. Writing in my head is great for my writing, but not especially helpful for sleeping. I managed to throttle back the words and divert myself with lessor matters. But I then sang, “I can’t get to sleep,” and “Overkill” streamed into my thoughts. That prompted memories of hearing the song while living on Okinawa, Japan, and the friends of the time, Mike and Lori, and Jeff, and my command post peers at the 603rd MASS. After spinning the memory Rolodex for fifteen minutes, sleep was achieved.

Here it is, “Overkill.”

Our Last Beer

My social group met last night for the last time in 2017. It was a good time, as always, and we raised our glasses in a commemorative salute.

Six beerites were absent, including one recovering from injury and illness. We sent him a special salute that is guaranteed to improve recovery times.

Get Well 2017

If you make it to Ashland and want to join us for a beer, we meet at Northwest Pizza every Wednesday at 4:30 PM for our winter hours. We’ll resume meeting at 5 PM in a few months.

Happy 2018. Cheers
