GoT is based on War of the Roses. We never covered the good stuff in history class!

Yes, I read an excellent interview with him about GoT and the WotR, published before the TV series began. That was sort of his point, too. History was always so dry, and he wanted something more honest and truthful.

History is the greatest soap opera ever written. Too bad history teachers don’t teach it that way.

Too true, and the more you learn of history, the more visible the cycles of power, collapse, and advancement become. Really is fascinating, and then you get into the players.

Hi Michael, Interesting quote, especially coming from George R. R. Martin. I saw an interview with him many years ago, where he spent his childhood looking out a window at an island. Supposedly he imagined all that could happen on this island. It is nice to hear he believes in “real life” too:) Erica

He does have an audacious imagination, right?
